DISTANCE FROM POSTIGNANO 10,6 km

The oldest part of Pupaggi Castle consists of the 11th-century basements, dating back to when the castle developed around the Church of San Sebastiano.

The rest of the settlement in this small village was built in the 15th century on the foundations of buildings primarily dating back to the 13th century. The castle features a tower with a dovecote and overlooks the central square, where the public washhouse still stands, along with interesting buildings, a tower, and an arch.

The Church of San Sebastiano, located at the center of the village, dates to the 13th century and retains all the characteristics of a Romanesque building, except for the facade, which has been remodeled several times over the centuries. The interior consists of a single nave. The presbytery was extended in the 18th century, likely during restoration work following the earthquake of 1703.

The walls preserve numerous frescoes, albeit fragmentary, from the 15th and 16th centuries, and the vault is decorated with a fresco from 1480 attributed to Jacopo Zampollini.
